Glossary

IDI is to assess individual’s worldview towards “difference.” The intercultural development continuum is divided into five stages, which are DENIAL, POLARIZATION, MINIMIZATION, ACCEPTANCE and ADAPTATION. You will gain an understanding of which stage you are in right now. For example, you will come to realize that you and your colleague from different background are both working for the same goal as professionals. You will also recognize the effect and side effects of your own worldview. The assessment result can show the average data of the same organizational unit, which will provide an understanding of the stage of each organization in the intercultural development continuum and their effect and side effects.

Based on each individual’s assessment, a personal coaching will be conducted by a CQ coaching-certified coach. The coach will try to understand the experiences and values which have contributed to shape your own cultural preferences and will take you through the journey so that you can demonstrate culturally intelligent leadership more creatively.

CQ Assessment is to assess individual CQ capabilities. The four factors which consist of CQ capabilities (CQ Drive, CQ Knowledge, CQ Strategy and CQ Action) are graded to help you understand your strengths and challenges. For example, the score shows clearly if you have motivation in working in multicultural contexts or have sufficient knowledge to do so effectively and which skill you need to improve. The assessment also identifies an average score of an organizational unit, which highlights the cultural tendencies and challenges of each organization.

Hofstede CWQ is to compare your personal cultural preferences relatively to six national cultures of your preference. An English, for example, may find him/herself having a similar cultural preference to Brazilian national culture. Through understanding your own cultural preferences, you will be able to deepen your self-awareness and know how you look to other people with different cultural values.

CQ Drive Camp is to understand the value of knowing and accepting “difference” based on case studies about how business opportunities can be broadened and how self-development can be achieved. It also encourages you to be aware of your unconscious bias and risk of denying “difference”, which could result in loss of business chances or self-development opportunities.

CQ Knowledge Camp is to learn and adopt the framework (or basic technique) to understand cultural differences and similarities. You will learn the different leadership style in each culture, widen your leadership skillset and establish a foundation of leadership across various cultures, situations, and partners.

CQ Action Camp involves perspective taking and roll playing in actual business contexts, including negotiations and meetings using CQ. It is to develop your ability to apply your CQ knowledge into daily communications and decision making. Feedback from CQ professionals about your behavior characteristics will help improve your practical abilities to leverage your CQ capabilities.

CQ professionals will conduct an organizational assessment through a series of assessment and camp programs to identify the characteristics of your organization including its strengths, weaknesses and challenges and the key area for further improvement. It helps create a succession plan for individual leaders and an action plan for each team member.

CQ Strategy Camp is to acquire leadership skills to engage with different types of people and promote your business based on an understanding of your own and your partner’s respective cultures. You will be able to apply your skills when, for example, you give effective directions to your colleagues from Greece and China, taking into consideration the difference of their cultural backgrounds. By sharing your own analysis and decision-making process in a specific business situation, CQ professionals can give you feedback on your process and help enhance your leadership skills even further.
